Specialised Welding

PRECISION WELDING TO MEET THE STRICTEST STANDARDS

At Berg Engineering, we specialise in delivering high-precision welding and fabrication services that meet the strictest industry standards.

FULLY CERTIFIED & QUALIFIED

Certified to AS/NZS, ASME, and ISO 3834-2 accredited, we ensure the highest level of quality, repeatability, traceability and compliance across every project.

Our welding personnel are qualified to AS 3992, AS 1554, ISO 9606 and ASME IX, giving you confidence that your components are manufactured and repaired to the highest quality.

EXOTIC MATERIALS EXPERTISE

We have deep experience in the welding and fabrication of exotic materials:

  • Nickel-based superalloys
  • Duplex & super duplex stainless steels
  • Titanium & titanium alloys
  • Chromium-molybdenum steels (Cr-Mo)
  • High-strength low-alloy steels (HSLA)

Our facility has a designated workshop exclusively for exotic materials with the use of atmospheric controlled bubbles to ensure no cross contamination/oxidation can occur.

IN-HOUSE TESTING & ANALYSIS CAPABILITIES

Welding Consultation

We work closely with clients to review designs, material selections, and welding procedures to ensure the most efficient and compliant approach is taken.

By engaging early, we help identify potential challenges, improve fabrication outcomes, and ensure our clients are fully confident in the quality and integrity of the final product.

In-house Testing & Analysis Capabilities

Pre-repair material verification before repairs are carried out, we perform on-site material analysis using XRF (X-ray fluorescence) technology.

This ensures full material identification and compatibility, giving our clients added confidence in the accuracy and success of repair work — especially on unknown or mixed alloys.

Heat Treatment

We have the option to conduct on-site heat treatment on parts that are required to be thermally controlled.

WPS/PQR Qualification

Our facilities include in-house capabilities to develop and qualify Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS) and Procedure Qualification Records (PQR).

NDT Services

Our certified AINDT-qualified technicians perform Non-Destructive Testing (NDT), including dye penetrant and magnetic particle testing, to ensure weld integrity before, during, and after production.

Our welding inspectors and supervisors are all qualified to IIW, AS1796 and CSWIP

Our certified AINDT-qualified technicians perform Non-Destructive Testing (NDT), including dye penetrant and magnetic particle testing, to ensure weld integrity before, during, and after production.

WELDING PROCESS CAPABILITIES

We offer a full range of advanced welding techniques:

  • GTAW / TIG (Gas Tungsten Arc Welding or Tungsten Inert Gas)
  • GMAW / MIG (Gas Metal Arc Welding or Metal Inert Gas)
  • FCAW (Flux Cored Arc Welding)
  • MCAW (Metal Core Arc Welding)
  • SAW (Submerged Arc Welding)
  • PTAW (Plasma Transferred Arc Welding)

Berg Extended Life Wear Plate - Plasma Transferred Arc (PTA) Process

Our PTAW hard-facing services with cobalt and nickel-based alloys enhance surface durability in high-wear, corrosive, or high-temperature environments to ensure a longer lifecycle.

Our PTA hard-facing solution – the Berg Extended Life Wear Plate – has resulted in us becoming a leader in wear plate technology

  • The method is achieved by placing layers less than 2 mm thick. This reduces the overall component weight and the likely hood of manual handling incidents.
  • It consists of 60% Tungsten Carbides in a Nickel Silicon Boron matrix providing full metallurgical fusion to the base material.
  • It extends wear plate life up to 10 times over conventional product life.
  • It reduces cost per hour on wear plate components and maintenance labour costs.
  • Non-standard shapes and sizes can be readily manufactured through computer modelling, CNC laser cutting and robotic PTA applications.
  • It’s suitable for high impact and high abrasion environments.
