Berg’s state-of-the-art Titan SC 40/50-4HY double column vertical boring and turning mill is delivering impressive large diameter manufacturing and refurbishments to support critical local industry.
The Titan can machine fabricated, cast or rolled components up to five metres in diameter, 50 tonnes in weight and 2950 millimetres in height using three ‘channels’ simultaneously: internal boring, outside turning and milling. It offers power generators, mineral processing operations and defence contractors, powerful and efficient solutions for the manufacture of large-scale parts.
Recent projects delivered by the Titan include:

Coal Mill Spider for major QLD power producer
Following a precise reverse manufacturing process managed entirely inhouse by the Berg team, the spider was brought to fruition by the Titan's simultaneous turning, drilling, boring and milling machining capabilities and measures nearly 4m in diameter and weighs over 7,000kg.

Drum Pulley for Berg Brisbane
Machined from rolled plate, the finishing on this drum pulley was achieved by turning the tapered outside diameter and boring the inside diameter using the Titan’s live tooling. Measuring 900mm in diameter, 2,000mm in length, and weighing 1,000kg, this component meets the highest quality benchmarks and surpassed customer expectations.

Coal Mill Table for major QLD power producer
Extend the life of your assets with Titan's precision! Our team reinstated all critical surfaces on this cola mill table to exacting standards, handling a robust 8,000kg, 3,258mm diameter component. Titan’s unmatched capability ensures timely delivery and flawless results.

Butterfly Valve for major power station
Machined from brand-new cast material, this butterfly valve features precise turning, drilling, tapping, and milling with live tooling. C-axis machining ensured exact critical dimensions for this complex 2,865mm diameter component, weighing 4,000kg.

Crucible for major alumina refinery
With dimensions of 3,523mm wide by 1,935mm high. This crucible features a complex shape and unique setup. We engineered specialised jigs and fixtures for precise milling, achieving a fine surface finish.

Mill End Discharge Head for major alumina refinery
With the Titan, we achieved precise turning with tight tolerance and minimal material removal on this mill end discharge head. We worked closely with our customer to extend component life and achieve optimal results. Measured 3,113mm diameter and 1,340mm height, this project utilised a customised tool holder to ensure flawless performance.
Believed to be the largest machine of its kind in the Central Queensland region, the Titan measures an impressive 17 metres x 11 metres x 10 metres and has a five metre swing diameter and 41 tonne lathe chuck. It also has a controlled C-axis and a pusher for turning tool holders and one for mounting SK 50 boring and milling tool holders; with each side equipped with a 12-unit tool magazine.
The machine is housed in Berg’s purpose-built facility in Gladstone which includes a 50t overhead crane and 20m height under crane.
The Titan is available now to support your operation’s asset optimisation program.
