What's Been Happening

Full coverage for clients from a workforce at the top of their game

The last few months has seen Berg Engineering’s involvement in back-to-back shutdowns for key clients. The Gladstone workshop has never been busier. Having the capacity to provide capabilities in all areas of the workshop 24 hours a day, seven days a week, the production team and their staff have worked hard to prevent any impact on the businesses already busy workload. Credit given to the Production Team for Managing this busy start to the financial year so well. Their success in balancing and coordinating the schedule, machine loading and shift plan so precisely whilst taking into consideration Safety, Quality and fatigue management has resulted in targets being exceeded and deadlines being met.

Berg Engineering Gladstone Workshop

Q1 FY22 saw Gladstone’s Berg Engineering once again engage in partnership with the Joint Participants Service Team at Queensland’s largest Power Station. Berg’s involvement in the Plants planned Major Outage was to provide services needed to recondition the different components that were scheduled to be assessed. This Shutdown saw a steady flow of items arriving, both planned and unplanned. Two of the larger items received were Rotors from the Plants six coal powered Steam Turbines.

The extensive scope of work on these Rotors included the removal of Blades and Seal Strips. Re-machining of Blade grooves was necessary before the replacement Blades and Seal Strips were installed. Finish machining to OEM specifications and some special attention given to all Bearing Journals.

All items successfully passed final inspections and were ready for another 10 years of service.

High Standards in Workmanship

Employing an “Infinite Game” strategy, the Gladstone business is focusing heavily on training the next generation in workforce. The seven apprentices and two trainees’ currently in the workforce, are getting exposed to a variety of projects that pass through the workshop. The education and training provided by the established team is world class.
